ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The main concern today is the heat, along with a few strong storms possible this afternoon and evening. High temperatures will soar into the upper 90s, along with heat index values that will climb into the triple digits. Several South Georgia counties are under a Heat Advisory until 8 PM this evening. Remember to limit your time outdoors, especially between 3 P.M. and 6 P.M., which is usually peak heating of the day.

A Marginal Risk of severe weather is placed over areas along and east of I-75, with the main threat of damaging winds if any storms develop. Rain chances come to an end overnight with lows in the low to mid-70s.

One more day with a primary focus on the heat and humidity on Tuesday. Highs will soar into the upper 90s, and isolated rain chances are possible. Rain chances will pick up heading into the middle of the week. More heat and humidity again next week.

TROPICAL UPDATE: The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of low pressure near the east coast of Georgia. This low-pressure system will slide across the Florida Panhandle into the Gulf. This system has a 30% chance of development over the next 7 days. If this system develops, the next name on the list is Dexter. Regardless of development, this system will drive moisture into South Georgia through the end of the week.
