Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Tift County voters will see two commission contests on the Nov. 3 midterm ballot, and both are unopposed. County commissioners vote on the county budget, taxes, roads, public safety, and zoning for their district.
Angela Haggins (D) - District 1
Haggins is the Democratic nominee for District 1, and she has no opponent.

Haggins grew up in Tift County. She serves as Executive Vice-Chair for Field and Recruitment for the Tift County Democrats and as treasurer of the Greenwood Cemetery committee, according to her campaign website and WALB.
She volunteers with Meals on Wheels, the soup kitchen, trash cleanups, and Feed the Needy, and works at the Target Distribution Center, where she is a member of IAM union Local 2699.
She says she is running on a fresh vision built around resident voices, open and efficient service, and a stronger District 1, according to her campaign website.
Where she stands, according to her campaign website and WALB Q&A:
- Transparency and accountability: Hold quarterly community meetings, share regular updates on roads, safety, and growth, and stay open about decisions and spending
- Infrastructure and roads: Make road fixes a top job, size up the most urgent needs, and use SPLOST money, the penny sales tax voters approve for local projects, plus state and federal grants
- Blight and upkeep: Pair steady code enforcement with neighborhood cleanups, trash drop-off access, and beautification work
- Public safety and growth: Back safe streets and careful growth, and team up with nonprofits, schools, churches, and civic groups to help families in need
Stan Stalnaker (R) - District 4
Stalnaker, the District 4 incumbent, is running unopposed.

Stalnaker spent 29 years with the Georgia State Patrol, rising to captain. He now leads the patrol’s Aviation Division while overseeing offices across southwest Georgia, according to his campaign website and a Governor’s Office release.
His training includes a master’s in public administration from Columbus State, plus the FBI National Academy, Command College, and budget and HR training. He is active on community boards and attends Liberty Baptist Church in the Tifton area.
He says he loves the Tift community and wants to keep serving it, pointing to his leadership background and a plan to grow while protecting quality of life, according to his campaign website.
Where he stands, according to his campaign website and WALB profile:
- Taxes and efficiency: Pass a balanced, conservative budget, set clear goals for department heads, push millage rollbacks, cuts to the property-tax rate, and build stronger reserves
- Public safety: Put safety first, back the Sheriff’s Office, Fire, and EMS, and support a full-time DUI and drug prosecutor and accountability courts
- Growth and roads: Back planned growth with roads, bridges, utilities, and tech that draw business and keep young people in Tifton
