THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) — The Thomasville Community Resource Center’s after-school program is facing imminent closure after critical funding has been placed on hold, leaving nearly 150 local children without vital after-school care.
Parents were notified of the potential shutdown earlier this week.

For many families, the program has been an essential support system. “This program has been a lifesaver for me and my daughter. I don’t know what we’ll do without it,” said Marchelle Mitchell, a concerned parent.
Program Director Don Simmons expressed deep concern over the situation. “It’s heartbreaking. We’ve done everything we could, but without the funding, we can’t keep the doors open,” he told WALB.

Local leaders say they are actively seeking solutions to avoid the closure. “This is a huge loss for our community. We’re working to find solutions,” said Mayor Pro Tem Terry Scott.
WALB’s Taylor Lewis will provide continuing coverage on how this funding crisis could affect the community and the families who rely on the program.
