ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On October 13, 2024, the Sumter Historic Trust opened the doors to some of downtown Americus’ most treasured architectural gems during the Georgia Ramble historic home tours.

The event allowed attendees to stroll through downtown Americus, visiting historic properties that showcase the community’s rich architectural heritage. One stop on the tour was the iconic Windsor Hotel, a five-story Victorian-style landmark that has anchored the heart of downtown since 1892.

The Windsor Hotel has welcomed countless guests over its 133-year history, including former President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. The historic property continues to serve as a testament to the craftsmanship and elegance of late 19th-century architecture.

Beyond the Windsor, the Georgia Ramble featured an impressive collection of Victorian, Classic Revival and Greek Revival style homes throughout the South Georgia community. The architectural diversity on display highlighted the region’s historical significance and preservation efforts.

Georgia Ramble served as both an educational opportunity for visitors and a celebration of Americus’ commitment to preserving its architectural legacy for future generations.
