PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (TNND) — An explosion at a Southern California fertility clinic on Saturday is being investigated as an act of terrorism after investigators confirmed the suspect died in the blast and left behind "anti-pro-life" writings.

Guy Edward Bartkus, 25, of Twentynine Palms, California, was identified by the FBI in the apparent car bomb detonation that damaged the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic.

Authorities said his writings seemed to indicate anti-natalist views, which believe people should not continue to procreate.

Akil Davis, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, told reporters that Bartkus attempted to live stream the explosion and left behind writings that communicated "nihilistic ideations."

"This was a targeted attack against the IVF facility,” Davis said on Sunday. "Make no mistake: we are treating this, as I said yesterday, as an intentional act of terrorism."

Four other people were injured in the bombing, and all embryos at the facility were saved, Davis added.

“Good guys one, bad guys zero,” he said.

Dr. Maher Abdallah, who leads the clinic, told The Associated Press, "Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients."

FBI Director Kash Patel applauded the quick response from law enforcement and the professionalism of FBI bomb technicians.

"Law enforcement teams responded quickly. And because of their decisive action, more lives were saved in a tragic situation that could’ve very easily turned far worse," Patel wrote on X. "Well done to the brave men and women who stepped up and executed the mission. Our prayers are with those still dealing with the aftermath of the attack and we will keep you updated."
