AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - Sumter Cycling held their third Kids Bike Fest for families in the area on May 17. This event was free to the public and was supported by Sumter County’s public safety departments.
At the event, young bike riders were offered free helmets and given bike safety lessons. The president of Sumter Cycling, Ryan Iafigliola, said that as students prepare to begin summer vacation, he wants to make sure when they ride their bike, they have the tools to do so safely.
“Today we had one girl come, and she was riding with training wheels, and she was doing very well. We said ‘I bet you can take those off.’ That’s a scary moment for the parents and for the kids, but she did! ... She’s just been doing great, and she’s having so much fun. That’s what really makes it feel worthwhile for all of us — when we see the kids getting excited about riding bikes, and we see the progress,” Iafigliola said.
Organizers hope to expand and have more bike fests in the future. For more information on future events click here.
