Description
MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) - The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office said five cameras were found as part of an investigation into unauthorized cameras at the Withers Auditorium.
The Colquitt County School District released a statement saying the cameras were located near a stage area. The sheriff’s office said it could not speak to the exact location of the cameras.
A Georgia Bureau of Investigation task force came in to check for additional cameras to make sure none were missed. The task force did not find any additional devices.
Evidence and other schools checked
Electronic devices were taken into evidence and have been sent off to download data from those devices, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said it checked with all other schools in the district and warned surrounding counties. The sheriff’s office also checked other places with community access, including the Art Center of Moultrie, where children and adults may be present. Those locations were clear, the sheriff’s office said.
No additional arrests
No other arrests have been made. Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator Katrina Johnson said she does not foresee any other arrests at this moment unless data extractions say otherwise.
As of now, the only two people with access are the two who were arrested, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said it believes the two individuals arrested acted on their own and that the investigation found no ties to S&L Integrated Systems, the vendor cleared by the sheriff’s office.
A spokesperson for S&L Integrated Systems also clarified the employment status of the two individuals. Reid Wylie, COO of S&L Integrated Systems, said Josh Briones is no longer employed by S&L. Wylie also said the other individual arrested was never employed by the company.
“We want all students, parents, families, and community to be protected,” the sheriff’s office said.
Former students raise concerns
WALB has reached out to the Colquitt County School System for an update and for a statement from Superintendent Dan Chappuis. We have not heard back on an update to the case but did hear back on an open records request.
WALB asked whether complaints were brought to the district’s attention before the arrests.
Former students say this did not just happen. According to a former student in a previous WALB report, a student filed a complaint on Joshua Briones in 2008. Former students describe a range of concerns from 2008 until 2025.
WALB is continuing to speak with former students and the community about the investigation.
