ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — This Christmas, the American Christmas Tree Association said you may notice higher prices on your artificial decor because of tariffs.

Customers looking for the real thing in north Georgia told Atlanta News First they were pleasantly surprised by the savings.

“You can’t fake the smell. You can’t fake the look of the real tree,” Matt Bowman, the founder of Tradition Trees, said.

Bowman should know. He founded Tradition Trees 20 years ago and has been delivering the Christmas spirit into homes ever since.

“We see a lot of customers who try an artificial for a couple years, and then they realize there’s just nothing like the real tree, so we see them come back and get a real tree,” Bowman said.

The American Christmas Tree Association predicted an undersupply of trees and decor this year due to fewer purchases and rising costs.

Translation? Buy early.

“I think right now is the perfect time. Get through football and Thanksgiving, put [up] a tree and use the weekend to start decorating,” Price Glomski said.

Glomski has three sons, all under the age of 10. He said buying a Christmas tree together is a bit of a tradition in their home.

“100% real tree every year,” he said. ”It just brings more to the house.”

Glomski said it’s “one of the best things [they] do as a family,” and shared that he spent about 25-30% less on his family’s tree this year.

“There was a real supply chain issue for a number of years where there weren’t enough trees in the ground,” Bowman said. “That’s kind of reversed itself in that there’s more trees in the ground this year. Farmers are incentivizing us retailers to buy a few more by pricing them lower so we’re able to pass that on to the consumer.”

Bowman said hundreds of families have already picked up their tree since Tradition Trees opened last week.
