COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A probation warrant led to the recovery of stolen G.I. Joe’s figures and a man facing drug charges in Coffee County.

On Monday, Jan. 6, officers with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office executed a warrant on a residence on Sand Hill Church Road for Ramon Ortiz. Upon arrival, they found that he was not home, according to a post by the sheriff’s office.

As they went to leave, a vehicle containing Ortiz and a passenger approached the residence.

Officers approached the vehicle and detained Ortiz due to an outstanding probation warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

During a brief inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered quantities of methamphetamines, which were determined to belong to Ortiz.

The passenger was released without charges.

The officers then proceeded to enter the residence for further investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

During an investigation of the residence, officers found a significant collection of collectible G.I. Joe action figures, which were linked to an ongoing burglary case being investigated by Douglas Police in late December 2024.

The sheriff’s office said the action figures were seized and taken to the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center for safekeeping. The collectibles’ estimated value ranges from $10,000 to $30,000 based on appraisal conditions. The investigation remains active.

In addition to violating his probation, Ortiz is also charged with possession of a noncontrolled substance with the intent to distribute. Further charges may be forthcoming as the inquiry by the Douglas Police continues, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This situation highlights the interconnectedness of local law enforcement efforts and the complexities involved in investigating potential criminal activities that may span multiple jurisdictions,” the post said.
