ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -
OVERVIEW: Showers along with a thunderstorm or two was the story today, nothing severe showed up. However, that may not be the case on Saturday. Thunderstorms are expected to roll in at around 2pm tomorrow, and they do bring a Marginal (Level 1) Risk for severe weather. Damaging winds is the primary threat, however a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms will bring Winter back for a couple days to begin next week.
TONIGHT/TOMORROW: Another near record warm overnight low is expected tonight, in the upper 60s. A few showers are likely early, before rain moves out later overnight. Clouds along with gentle winds carrying warm and moist air allow for some patchy fog and mist, keeping things damp all night.
Skies manage to clear some, bringing sunshine in the late morning and early afternoon on Saturday. This will heat us up back into the 80s, but it will also give more fuel to any storms rolling in later in the day. A strong and broken line of storms will begin making their way through, mostly from the north to the south starting in the early afternoon (around 2pm), and will start falling apart a couple hours after sunset (by 9pm). The main severe threat is damaging winds (5% chance), along with a secondary tornado threat (2% chance). Storms will be scattered, not widespread. Some people may not see anything, others may. Storms start dissipating to showers after 9pm and linger through the first half of the night as they move south.
SUNDAY-TUESDAY: Waking up Sunday morning, skies will be clearing. Winds will be gusting up to 30 mph and temperatures probably won’t make it out of the 50s throughout the day. A colder air mass is in place and we will feel it to begin the work week. Expect freezing nights on Sunday, Monday and potentially Tuesday, the coldest being Monday night.
WEDNESDAY-FRIDAY: Temperatures moderate to end the work week. We return to to the 70s for highs and overnight lows will generally be in the 40s and 50s. Rain chances perk up on Thursday, it is something we will continue to watch.
