COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Law enforcement is searching for a shooter after one person was killed and another five were wounded at a warehouse in New Albany late Tuesday night.
That suspect was identified at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday as Bruce Reginald Foster III. He is described as being 6 feet tall and approximately 175 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones said Foster works at that location and was on the clock for several hours before the shooting took place.
"(Managers and employees) did say that nobody here noticed any type of confrontation or anything that might have triggered this," Jones said during a news conference Wednesday morning.
First responders went to the KDC/One facility, a beauty product company, in the area of the 8800 block of Smiths Mill Road North just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones said it appears one suspect was involved -- Foster -- and that Foster is not yet in custody.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, Jones added.
"This appears at this point to be a targeted attack," he said, cautioning that the investigation was in its preliminary stages. He said police do not believe Foster is a threat to society.
About 150 people were inside the building at the time of the shooting. Jones said some employees did not know anything had happened in part because of the sheer size of the facility.
"This has been a very tragic situation," he said. "Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families, and everybody that works at this facility. This is something that we hoped that would never happen in our community. But we prepare for it."
Police were not able to give specifics on the condition of the wounded who were rushed to hospitals. The person who died was declared dead at the scene. That person's identity was not immediately released.
Law enforcement is executing search warrants in the search for the shooter.
"We have multiple detectives with the employees," Jones said just before 2 a.m. Wednesday. "We have no intention of keeping them any longer than we have to. Once they gather information and are able to interview them we'll release them."
Jones would not confirm if Foster is or was an employee at the facility or whether some kind of altercation prompted the shooting.
Police officials are expected to share new details at a news conference at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Tuesday's incident was the third such shooting at a large warehouse in Central Ohio since 2022.
This story will be updated throughout the morning as new information becomes available.
