Description
PINELAND, Ga. (WALB) - This morning, officials report the Pineland Road Fire is now 38% contained as crews continue working to control the massive wildfire burning across more than 32,000 acres.
Despite the fire’s size, safety remains a top priority. According to Georgia Forestry Commission Public Information Officer Don Thomas, crews have reported zero injuries so far an outcome he calls remarkable given the scale of the operation.

“Even a blister on somebody’s foot gets put into a system,” Thomas said. “So we’ve had zero percent injuries on this fire, which is phenomenal about how strategic we’re being—not only doing a strategic burn, but how we’re strategically operating safely as a crew from all over the country.”
Firefighters from multiple states are working together, using controlled burns and coordinated tactics to slow the fire’s spread while protecting both personnel and nearby communities.

Although rain is in the forecast, officials caution that the fight is far from over. Crews say weather conditions can change quickly, and full containment will take time.
At this point, fire containment is expected by late May as crews remain focused on bringing the wildfire under control safely and effectively.
