SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - In relation to Worth County, the closest Narcan site open to the public is 30 minutes away in Tifton. That’s why Phoebe Worth is donating Narcan to local law enforcement agencies is not only a good cause, but it could save someone’s life.

Narcan can not only save opioid users, but Tonya Vaughn, Phoebe’s Director of Nursing, says it can help officers who have been exposed.

“If they touch something that has fentanyl or anything on it, then they would be able to administer it to themselves or another law enforcement to keep them from having a reaction,” she said.

50 Narcan sprays will be donated to the Sylvester Police Department, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, and Phoebe Worth’s goal for this donation is simple.

“It’s really just to help the community, save someone’s life,” Vaughn.

Narcan can only reverse the effects of opioids like pain medication, Heroin, and Fentanyl. It is advised to never take more medication than you are prescribed or medication that is not prescribed to you.

Naloxone, a medication that reverses an overdose, is available for free at health departments in the Southwest Health District without a prescription.
