APPLING COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Two Georgia parents are behind bars after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said they concealed the death of their 6-month-old child.

41-year-old Dustin Sauls and 36-year-old Cierra Chancey of Blackshear, Georgia, are each charged with one count of concealing the death of another and one count of possession of cocaine in connection with the death of their child.

The GBI was originally requested to investigate the death of Sauls’ and Chancey’s 6-month-old child on Sept. 28, 2022. The GBI’s original investigation indicated the parents delayed reporting the child’s death.

Both parents were taken into custody on Thursday, May 30, 2025, without incident, the GBI said. They were booked at the Appling County Jail.

Officials said this is an active investigation. Those with information relevant to this case are asked to call the Baxley Police Department at (912) 367-8305. Information can also be given to the GBI’s Douglas office at (912) 389-4103.
