The South Portland Police Department says it is searching for a suspected shooter inside the Maine Mall. (WGME)
SOUTH PROTLAND (WGME) -- The South Portland Police Department says it is searching for a suspect after a shooting inside the Maine Mall.
Police say they believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
One person was taken to Maine Medical Center.
The public is being encouraged to avoid the area.
Police do not believe the public is in danger.
Wednesday evening, the South Portland Police Department released photos of the suspect in the shooting.
Police say they believe the shooter left the mall through the food court exit.
They are asking anyone with information to contact police.
Governor Janet Mills released a statement about the incident Wednesday.
"I have been briefed on the situation at the Maine Mall in South Portland. I thank State and local law enforcement for their swift response. I advise Maine people to follow the instructions of law enforcement and to avoid the area until otherwise instructed."
