Description

LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – Healthcare access in Lee County continues to grow as plans move forward for a new pediatric urgent care clinic.

County leaders say the facility would provide families with more convenient, close-to-home medical care for their children.

CareConnect Health presented its proposal for the pediatric clinic to the Lee County Board of Commissioners this week. The facility is planned for a rapidly developing corridor that has already seen major additions, including Wawa, 7 Brew, Take 5 Oil Change and several new retail businesses.

County Commissioner Luke Singletary says the growth is exactly what the county has been working toward.

“We’re excited to see more businesses wanting to come to Lee County. Developments like this help our community grow and give residents services they’ve been asking for,” Singletary said.

Local parents say a pediatric urgent care is long overdue.

One mother told WALB she finally feels relief knowing help will be closer: “Honestly, this is a blessing for our community. Having a pediatric facility right here in Lee County means our kids can get the care they need without us having to drive so far. As a parent, that gives me so much peace of mind. I’m really grateful we’re finally getting this.”

Another mother says the new clinic will be life-changing for families with children who need frequent medical visits. “My daughter has asthma, so we’re at the doctor a lot. Knowing we’ll finally have pediatric care right here… it means everything. Before, we’d have to plan half the day around doctor visits. Now we won’t have to travel so far with sick kids. This new pediatric center is going to make a big difference for local families on this side of town.”

Both CareConnect and Phoebe Putney Health System have announced plans for new urgent care facilities in Lee County, signaling what leaders call a major step forward in expanding accessible medical care for residents

WALB’s Ashanti Drake will have more in our later newscasts.
