LOWNDES, Ga. (WALB) - [Update 3/20 9:30 p.m.] The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) released a statement stating that the accident happened on Friday, March 20, at approximately 2:05 p.m.

According to GSP, the preliminary investigation revealed the following:

• The Lowndes County school bus was stopped at the stop sign on Howell Road and Inner Perimeter Road, facing east
• A black Hyundai SUV was traveling south on Inner Perimeter Road, approaching the intersection
  • The driver of the bus failed to yield when entering the roadway, according to GSP
  • The driver of the Hyundai struck the front driver’s side of the bus with its front end

"Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway after the collision. Both drivers were transported to the hospital. A DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer assisted with the investigation“.

[Original article] The Lowndes County School District reported in a Facebook post on Friday, March 20, that a school bus was involved in a crash.

According to the post, the accident happened at the intersection of Inner Perimeter and Howell Road before dismissal.

“No students were on the bus at the time. Both drivers received prompt attention, and we are grateful there were no students involved“.
