LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported a “severe” traffic accident at Hwy 82/Georgia Highway 520 near Oakland Parkway in Lee County.

The accident left the motorcycle destroyed and the driver dead. Georgia State Patrol (GSP) released around 5:30 p.m. that only two vehicles were involved in the crash — the motorcycle and a passenger car.

GSP said the motorcycle was traveling at a “extremely” high rate of speed when it struck the passenger car. The impact ejected the motorcyclist, who died in the crash. No one else was hurt.

The accident was at 12:12 p.m., and Hwy 82 lanes reopened at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

All westbound traffic was blocked immediately following the crash. Drivers were rerouted down Oakland Parkway.
