ALAPAHA, Ga. (WALB) — The mayor of Alapaha has died, a city official and a family member confirmed.
Mayor Waymond Smith passed away Jan. 15 at about 10:50 p.m., according to Smith’s brother, Rudolph Smith.
Based on WALB’s previous coverage, Smith was elected to the mayor’s seat in Alapaha in 2005.
Rudolph Smith described Waymond as a dedicated, community-oriented man who “really loved” the city of Alapaha.
