Description

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Monday, January 20, 2025, was a day full of important events.

There was the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff Championship and the 47th presidential Inauguration. But, it might be remembered as the day of pardons.

In former President Joe Biden's final hours as the President of the United States, he pardoned members of his family and notable figures like Anthony Fauci and Mark Milley, along with other "J6 Committee" members.

Not long after, when the powers of the president shifted, more U.S. citizens were pardoned -- January 6 protestors and defendants.

Eight of the 1,500 defendants were Arkansans, including the man who became infamous for taking a photo with his feet propped up on former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's desk.

Richard "Bigo" Barnett, 64 of Gravette, was sentenced to 54 months in prison after he was found guilty of obstructing Congress and impeding police on January 6, 2021.

Barnett, with a handful of others, became iconic to those on the right for their actions after pictures and videos circulated on social media. Many of the protestors have been called "political prisoners" over the last few years by supporters and loved ones who believe they should never have been in prison.

On the left, they became notorious for their actions and there was an outcry for justice to hold the protestors accountable for trespassing on Capitol grounds.

Now, almost all of the defendants are free, with many continuing to be released in the coming days and weeks.

A video of Barnett after his release was shared on X (formerly Twitter), where Barnett stated he was excited to get home and be with his dogs and family, but first he wanted to eat Waffle House.

The man who recorded the video seemingly went out to eat with Barnett shortly after his release.

Barnett is joined by seven other Arkansans to be released from prison following President Trump's pardons for J6 defendants.
