Description

LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - One man has been arrested after allegedly threatening his girlfriend and stealing her vehicle.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), deputies responded to a call of a stolen vehicle on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The victim advised deputies that she had been giving her boyfriend, Artavius Strum, a ride when he became irate, produced a handgun, and threatened violence. In fear for her safety, she contacted 911. Strum then took possession of her vehicle without permission and fled the scene.

Dispatch informed deputies that the stolen vehicle had been seen traveling east on US Highway 82 toward Albany. A deputy positioned himself at the intersection of Hickory Grove Road and US Highway 82 and initiated a traffic stop.

The vehicle driven by Strum came to a stop in front of Turner’s Furniture on US Highway 82. LCSO says that Strum complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident.

During a search of the vehicle, a loaded silver and black Canik TP9 9mm handgun was found under the driver’s seat.

Further investigation revealed that Strum had an active arrest warrant out of Dougherty County for probation violation related to charges including:

  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • Theft by Receiving

A criminal history check also confirmed Strum as a convicted felon with prior felony convictions, including trafficking a controlled substance and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Strum was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft by Taking – Motor Vehicle (OCGA 16-8-2)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (OCGA 16-11-106)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (OCGA 16-11-131)

Following Strum’s arrest, he was transported to the Lee County Jail, the firearm was secured into evidence, and the vehicle was returned to the victim.
