Description

LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - Parents and guardians have been pulling their children out of school left and right Wednesday due to the alleged threat. Parents say they appreciate the district keeping the community informed, but the threats made were too close for comfort.

According to officials, a concerned parent notified the Lee County Sheriff’s office Tuesday night about a threat made against Lee County Schools.

Parents sent their students to school as normal on Wednesday, but the parents and students became worried as rumors swirled.

“I started getting text messages from my daughter and then I thought I needed to do something about it,” said Fola Maxwell, a Lee County Schools parent.

Maxwell says the district assured parents that students were safe at school, but she says she couldn’t take that chance.

“Getting a text from my daughter is what did it for me. God forbid something happened, I would hate myself and blame myself. I thought it’s probably not going to be any meaningful thing happening at school today anyway. Let me just get up and pick the kids up,” Maxwell said.

Officials say safety is a priority and they are asking the public to report all threats seen or heard.

“Reporting this type of matter directly to law enforcement will ensure that the matter is addressed immediately with the best-developing resources,” officers said.

Darrell Moses, a Lee County parent, says they still have questions and hope this situation does not happen again.

“Hopefully they find out who did it. It’s ridiculous but right now, we all just have to pray. Prayer is the solution,” Moses said.

Neither the Lee County School superintendent nor law enforcement would answer our questions today. They wouldn’t say who charges are pending against them and wouldn’t give details about the exact nature of the school threat.
