ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A man is behind bars after reportedly kidnapping and raping a woman on Friday, May 16.
According to a report from the Albany Police Department (APD), the victim called from the Checkers on S. Slappey Boulevard stating that she had been raped and assaulted by a friend who had been staying in her house since Mother’s Day. He was identified as Raphael Tinch, 39.
The victim told police that on Friday, Tinch grabbed her and dragged her into the living room where he raped her and threatened to kill her while choking her.
The victim told police he wouldn’t let her leave the home, but she eventually escaped from a window and ran to a nearby Checkers restaurant, where she was able to call police.
When officers went to the victim’s home, they say Tinch had already left in her vehicle and took her phone.
Using the Flock camera system, police were able to determine that the vehicle was last seen heading towards Dawson.
Police say Tinch turned himself in and is charged with kidnapping and rape.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
