WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump's pick for FBI Director will be sworn in Friday.
Kash Patel, who vows to rebuild trust in the nation's top federal law enforcement agency, will be sworn in.
The ninth Director of the FBI promised to be transparent with Americans and restore faith in the bureau when he takes over.
The American people deserve an FBI that is transparent, accountable, and committed to justice. The politicalization of our justice system has eroded public trust—but that ends today. My mission as Director is clear: let good cops be cops—and rebuild trust in the FBI. Working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Bureau and our partners, we will rebuild an FBI the American people can be proud of. And to those who seek to harm Americans—consider this your warning. We will hunt you down in every corner of this planet. Mission First. America Always. Let’s get to work," Patel wrote on X.
After the Senate voted to confirm Patel, Senate Majority Leader John Thune spoke about the next steps, "The FBI has lost trust among the American people in recent years, much of that seems, I should say much of that stems from a perception that politics affected the FBI's core work and it's not hard to see why. I look forward to working with Mr. Patel to restore the integrity of the FBI and get it focused on its critical mission."
Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is expected to swear in Patel on Friday, spoke about the role of FBI agents moving forward.
"We will return them to their core function, fighting violent crime, and that's what the great majority of men and women in law enforcement, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals, FBI, as well as the incredible legal team of the Justice Department want to do," Bondi said at Thursday's Conservative Political Action Conference.
Lawmakers on the other side of the aisle, who opposed Patel leading the agency, spoke out Thursday standing outside the FBI headquarters.
"Kash Patel, mark my words will cause evil in this building behind us and Republicans who vote for him will that day," Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI, said in protest of Patel's nomination.
Patel was confirmed to be FBI Director in a 51-49 vote.
