PLAINS, Ga. (WALB) - Jimmy Carter, the only president from Georgia ever elected to the White House, has passed away.
Mark Minick, a board member of the Friends of Jimmy Carter, has confirmed that the 39th President at 100 passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29.
Minick said he died at home surrounded by friends and family. He said the former president was in good spirits at the time of his death.
A native of Plains, Carter was the 39th president of the United States.
In February, Carter entered hospice care at his home in Plains.
