Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Vatican City over the weekend to attend Pope Leo XIV's inaugural mass.

The White House confirmed Vance and Rubio's appearance at the Sunday mass. Second lady Usha Vance will also join the delegation traveling for the mass. Both Vance and Rubio are Catholic.

Pope Leo, previously Cardinal Robert Prevost, was elected as the leader of the Catholic Church last week through a brief conclave. Leo was born in Chicago and is the first American pope, which led to a major celebration for American Catholics.

The inaugural mass will mark Pope Leo's formal installation as pope and will be held in St. Peter's Square, the Vatican shared.

Before being named Pope, he was busy on X letting the world know how he feels about President Trump and Vice President JD Vance. The Daily Mail reported on a few of the posts.

On April 14, Pope Leo XIV retweeted a post about the deportation of Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, who the Department of Homeland Security calls an illegal alien, to El Salvador.

The post reads: "Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?"

He also shared several articles about Vance and his stance on immigration. One tweet titled, "JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn't ask us to rank our love for others."

Vance did congratulate Leo after his election, writing on X, "I’m sure millions of American Catholics and other Christians will pray for his successful work leading the Church,” the vice president wrote on X. “May God bless him!"
