ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Isaias has moved through South Georgia, with the tornado watch canceled and tropical storm warnings expired.
A flood watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday for counties east of I-75.
WALB’s final live streaming update aired at 3 a.m. as the storm passed through the region. As of 4pm Saturday, a few bands of showers and storms are expected east of I-75 until later this evening. There is a low flooding and severe threat. Much drier weather expected Sunday.
TRACKING ISAIAS
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin right around 9:30 p.m. as a Category 2 storm.
As of the 11 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center Hurricane, Isaias was moving over the western Florida Panhandle bringing damaging winds and flash flooding inland.
As of 11 p.m., the storm had sustained maximum winds of 90 mph. The Hurricane Warning west of the Mississippi/Alabama border was discontinued, as well as the Tropical Storm Warning west of Ocean Springs, Miss. The Storm Surge Warning west of Dauphin Island, Ala. was also canceled, as well as the Storm Surge Watch east of Suwannee River, Fla.
Conditions will deteriorate across south Georgia Friday night with outer bands bringing potential flash flooding, a tornado threat, and tropical storm winds of more than 40 mph.
South Georgia is not in the cone of uncertainty but our location being the east side (dirty side) allows our area to face many impacts such as flash flooding, quick spin-up tornadoes, and tropical storm force winds.
🚨Current watches/warnings in effect🚨
TIMING: Landfall of Isaias is expected sometime between 7 to 10 p.m. Friday night. South Georgia is beginning to see the far outer bands of Hurricane Isaias, with light to moderate showers entering throughout the area. Rain will be more widespread and heavier throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening with the threat for severe weather increasing around dusk. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for all south Georgia counties west of I-75. This means tropical storm force winds (39mph+) are expected Friday evening through Saturday.
On Friday, a rare 3/4 Moderate Risk for Flash Flooding is possible in our far southwest counties, where they could see 4″ to 6″+ of rain from training storms dumping heavy rainfall in the same areas for several hours. A 2/4 Slight Risk of Flash Flooding encompasses the majority of the area with the exception of our far southeast communities where a 1/5 Marginal Risk is in place.

There is a 2/5 Slight risk for severe weather today in place for our SW counties with a 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe weather for remaining areas west of I-75. Impacts expected are spin-up tornadoes throughout this evening, through the overnight hours, eventually ending Saturday evening. After midnight tonight, the 2/5 Slight Risk expands nearly area-wide with the elevated risk for tornados and flash flooding.
With the combination of spin-up tornados, tropical storm-force gusts and heavy torrential rainfall, it is expected that trees and powerlines will fall in some areas, causing power outages. It is important for everyone to be prepared for a worse case scenario of losing power. Make sure you have enough water, batteries, flashlights, canned goods and other items on your hurricane prep list ready. Due to gusty winds, be sure to clear any loose items on your porch or front yard to prevent possible flying debris. Additionally, with the flash flooding threat, be careful while driving and watch out for flooded or impassible roads. Do not drive through them.
📍Power outages connected to the storm📍
Lastly, with the risk of a nocturnal tornado threat, it is important you have several ways to get warnings whether that is using a NOAA Weather Radio, having emergency alerts turned on all your mobile devices, or downloading the WALB Weather App with push notifications ON.
We will continue to provide updates on timing and impacts on all your newscasts and digital platforms throughout the day and as Isaias makes landfall.
