THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) — A single mother of three is facing the fight of her life after doctors diagnosed her with Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer that has spread to her brain.

Kandis Hall, who worked three jobs to support her children before falling ill, said she was stunned when doctors delivered the news after she was hospitalized for a week.

“At first I bust out crying. It was such a shock because I’ve never smoked a day in my life,” Hall said. “It’s still unbelievable. I still don’t believe it.”

The cancer has metastasized to her brain, where doctors found five tumors causing severe memory loss, vision loss, and mobility issues.

“I can’t hardly walk. I have a walker, but it doesn’t really help,” Hall said. “Everything was just a total shock to me. It was devastating.”

Hall recently endured Gamma Knife radiation therapy earlier this month and began her first IV chemotherapy treatment this week alongside oral chemotherapy. Dealing with daily medical appointments while living in an upstairs apartment has added to the physical toll.

Unable to work, Hall applied for disability assistance but said she has faced delays and unanswered calls, leaving her family dependent on support from loved ones.

“When you’re used to taking care of your family and being able to pay your bills... and now, nothing. My mom helped me out a great deal and my family pretty much, because I can’t earn an income right now.”

Despite the uphill battle, Hall remains determined to keep going for her three children.

“What’s keeping me strong are my children,” Hall said. “Just trying to make sure I make it through this for them.”
