DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - A traffic stop in Dawson led to the arrest of two people after officers allegedly discovered illegal drugs, a stolen firearm and other evidence of drug activity, according to the Dawson Police Department (DPD).
Police said the traffic stop occurred on July 5 as officers conducted proactive patrols within the city. During the stop, officers recovered what investigators described as a distribution quantity of suspected marijuana, suspected Schedule II narcotics, a stolen firearm, U.S. currency and other items commonly associated with illegal drug activity.
The two suspects were arrested and taken to the Terrell County Jail, where they face multiple felony charges related to illegal narcotics. Police said one of the suspects also faces charges of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes.

The Dawson Police Department said the arrests are part of its ongoing efforts to proactively remove illegal drugs and firearms from the community.
“Our officers’ attention to detail during what began as a routine traffic stop led to the recovery of dangerous narcotics and a stolen firearm that could have posed a serious threat to the safety of our community,” Dawson Police Chief Willie Thornton said in a statement.
Thornton also commended the officers involved for their professionalism, vigilance and teamwork, thanking them for their continued commitment to protecting the citizens of Dawson.
The Dawson Police Department said it appreciates the community’s continued support as it works to make Dawson a safer place to live, work and raise a family.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
