WASHINGTON (7News) — House Democrats are set to give an update Tuesday morning on the detainment of a former Columbia University graduate student and Palestinian activist, Mahmoud Khalil.

WATCH LIVE:

Khalil is facing additional immigration charges after being arrested earlier this month. He's accused of spreading Hamas propaganda and failing to disclose previous work with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) on his permanent resident application.

Khalil is a legal permanent U.S. resident and married to an American, Noor Abdalla.

This comes as the White House withdrew $400 million in federal funds from Columbia University over alleged antisemitism on campus.

Democrats from Texas, Michigan, Illinois and Washington will speak at the conference regarding Mahmoud's detainment at 9:30 a.m.
