Description
PLAINS, Ga. (WALB) - President Jimmy Carter will celebrate his 100th birthday on Oct. 1.
WALB spoke with Carter’s doctor, Dr. Raines, who said, “He is doing well.” We have also learned that it is unclear if he’ll be at the Peanut Festival this year.
After 19 months in hospice care, Jason Carter, Jimmy’s grandson, told People Magazine that the former president, “has really physically diminished and can’t do much on his own, but he is emotionally engaged and still having experiences and laughing, loving.”
Several family members and music artists performed at a birthday celebration for President Carter at the Fox Theatre on Sept. 17.
Other than former First Lady Rosalynn Carter’s funeral, Jimmy Carter’s last public appearance was made at the 2023 Peanut Festival.
Events celebrating Jimmy Carter’s birthday:
- On Saturday, Sept. 28, a Peanut Parade, a 5K and Fun Run and other events will be held in Plains.
- The Charters of Freedom setting will be dedicated on Tuesday, October 1st, at 4:30 p.m., at the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park in Plains.
- Carter family’s public housing unit in Plains is set to be rededicated on Oct. 5.
WALB will have more details on Carter’s birthday celebrations leading up to and on Oct. 1. Stay with us.
