ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Democratic Governors Association (DGA) is investing an addition $5 million in Keisha Lance Bottoms quest to become the nation’s first Black female governor in history.
So far, the DGA has invested $16 million in one of the nation’s most watched gubernatorial contests.
On Monday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who chairs the DGA and who also has been mentioned as a possible 2028 White House contender, made the announcement alongside Bottoms.
Beshear was in Atlanta Monday hosting a canvassing lunch with local union members alongside Bottoms, who is running against Republican Rick Jackson to become Georgia’s 84th governor in next week’s election.
Joining Bottoms and Beshear was U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, locked in a reelection battle with U.S. Rep. Mike Collins in a race that is seen as a must-hold for the Democratic Party on Capitol Hill.
Bottoms has been vastly outspent in her campaign by Jackson, a self-made billionaire healthcare entrepreneur and executive who has invested at least $100 million of his own funds to become the state’s next chief executive.
Over the weekend, Jackson attended a middle Georgia rally headlined by President Donald Trump as the state enters its final week of early voting before next Tuesday’s elections.
On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama will headlines a rally with Ossoff and Bottoms, followed by a visit from former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday and Friday.
Early voting ends Friday, Oct. 30, 2026.
