Description

ATLANTA, Ga. - Among the almost 40 people and organizations who are footing the bill for President Donald Trump’s $300 million ballroom addition to the White House are two Atlantans, one of whom serves in the 47th U.S. president’s Cabinet.

Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler is the administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Her husband, Jeff Sprecher, is the founder and CEO of Intercontinental Exchange, an American multinational financial services company that operates global financial exchanges and clearing houses. Sprecher founded ICE in 2000.

Loeffler was appointed the 28th SBA administrator in February 2025.

Loeffler, who holds a bachelor of science in marketing from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA in international finance and marketing from DePaul University, had a 25-year career in financial services and technology. Besides an executive in ICE, she was the founding CEO of Bakkt, a fintech startup and subsidiary of ICE.

A former co-owner of the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, Loeffler was appointed to fill the retiring Johnny Isakson’s U.S. Senate seat by Gov. Brian Kemp. She lost an election bid in her own right to current Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Also included among the donors’ list released by the White House are Lockheed-Martin, the Bethesda, Maryland-based aerospace and defense contractor. Formed in 1995 from the merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta, the company has a branch at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.

  • It’s being constructed to provide a larger event space than currently available, capable of seating 650 people, more than the East Room’s 200-person capacity.
  • The project is privately funded by Trump and other donors. Some companies have reportedly pledged donations, with some pledging $5 million or more. Donors may have their names etched inside the White House or listed on a website.
  • Construction began in September 2025 and is expected to be completed before the end of Trump’s term.
  • It is being built where the current East Wing sits, which has been renovated and changed multiple times since its construction in 1902.
