Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Georgia will recognize the farming families that have made an impact in the Peach State. Applications for the Centennial Farm Program are now open.

The program recognizes farms with over 100 years of service to encourage preservation. Applicants must own at least 10 acres of the original purchase, be active in agricultural production, and generate $1000 annually from the farm. In addition, the farm must have been continually farmed by members of the same family for at least 100 years. Click here for an application.

The Georgia centennial farm program was created in 1993 by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in a partnership with:

  • The Georgia Farm Bureau Federation
  • Georgia Department of Agriculture
  • Georgia EMC
  • The Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter
  •  University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.

Since its creation, more than 620 farms have been recognized.

Farms that qualify are recognized on the opening day of the Georgia National Fair. Recipients are honored with a certificate signed by the governor.

In 2025, P. K. Moore Farms in Lowndes County, Carl J. Ray Farm in Tift County, and Pendergast Hay Farm in Grady County were recognized as Southwest Georgia Centennial Family Farms
