SOUTH GEORGIA. (WALB) - The official start of summer is this week, bringing high temperatures and humidity with it. Georgia Power reminds consumers, there are several ways to save on energy costs.
There are several things that customers can do to maximize energy efficiency. Georgia Power recommends,
- Change air filters regularly for proper airflow
- Turn off unused lights
- Close curtains during peak sun hours to keep the heat out
- Ensure window and door seals are not leaking
- Wash clothes in full loads
- Clean the lint trap before each use
- Replace incandescent bulbs with energy star LED
- Use large appliances out side the peak hours of 2 – 7 P.M.
If you are struggling to pay your energy bill, programs like E.A.S.E can help qualifying households. The program can provide free home upgrades like,
- LED lightbulbs,
- Heating and cooling system services
- Attic insulation
Improvements in these areas can reduce energy consumption. Generally, Households that earn less than $42,000 dollars annually or an income less than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines may qualify for this program. Those that meet these requirements can apply here. Local assistance can be found on the Georgia Power financial resources and services page .
Georgia Power recommends customers use the, My Power Usage Tool. The service tracks a customer’s energy consumption. Customers can view energy trends, download usage history, and get notifications on energy usage. Energy budget limits can be set, letting consumers know when they exceed target energy use.
