Description

ROCHELLE, Ga. — A peanut facility fire that started early Thursday morning is expected to continue burning for at least one more day, according to local fire officials.

The fire began at the Doster peanut drying field at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, the fire chief said.

The facility housed a shed containing 20 semi-trailers filled with peanuts that were drying out. The cause of the fire remains unknown as crews continue to extinguish it, but propane gas used to dry the peanuts could be a potential cause.

Local residents said the fire will impact the entire community.

It’s a major employer for the town, so the fire will have an impact on the local economy.
