AUGUSTA/ALBANY, Ga. (WRDW/WALB) - A former Albany State University (ASU) basketball player and Laney High School graduate was among three adults injured in a shooting during a homecoming tailgate in Augusta on Oct. 17.

Gemyia “Meme” Bowman was wounded in the shooting at Laney High School’s homecoming event, according to information shared with WALB.

Bowman is now facing a long recovery, with her family seeking support to help cover medical expenses and other financial needs.

Her mother, Carolyn Forrest, has launched a GoFundMe to help pay for Bowman’s medical care, physical therapy, rent and lost income during her recovery.

“Now, after this heartbreaking act of violence, Meme is facing a long and difficult recovery, and Carolyn is asking for support as their family walks through this painful time together,” the fundraiser states.

The fundraiser aims to help ease the financial burden on the family as Bowman focuses on healing.

WALB is working to learn more about Bowman’s condition and the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
