FELLSMERE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 19-year-old is accused of using an excavator to rip the roof off a truck and place a dead hog inside during a heated dispute over livestock.
The Indian River County Sheriff's Office (IRCSO) said 19-year-old Caleb James Young was arrested on May 21, faces felony criminal mischief for causing more than $1,000 in property damage. The bizarre incident unfolded at a property on 111th Street, where Young resides.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim was contacted by Young about removing a hog the victim had been keeping in a pasture on Young’s property. When the victim delayed retrieving the animal, Young allegedly killed the hog and later informed the victim it was now his problem.
Shortly after, IRCSO said the victim was notified by a third party that Young had sent him a Snapchat video showing the victim's white Dodge Ram 1500 with its roof torn off. The third party told deputies that Young had expressed frustration with the victim and warned he was going to destroy the truck and place the hog inside. The third party advised against it, but later received a video confirming Young had followed through.
Deputies arrived at the scene and found the truck with its roof crushed and a dead hog placed in the front passenger seat. Nearby, they located a CAT 305 CR excavator with fresh blood and white paint on the bucket, consistent with the damage to the vehicle, according to the arrest report.
Young’s father confirmed to deputies that his son had used the excavator to damage the truck and place the hog inside. He said Young had informed him of the act before leaving the property.

When deputies found Young at a nearby residence, the sheriff's office said he told them he was enraged after an argument with the victim over a piglet allegedly injured by one of Preece’s dogs. Young said he “saw red” and acted out of anger.
The truck — valued at about $8,500 — had reportedly been purchased with a loan from Young’s mother to the victim, though it had not yet been titled in the victim's name.
Young was booked into the Indian River County Jail and is being held without bond.
