Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - An organization in Albany is working to help first-time home buyers through a workshop aimed at giving people the tools they need to become homeowners.
Average mortgage rates are sitting above 6%, compared to around 3% during the pandemic housing boom. Higher rates, combined with rising home prices and student debt, have made it difficult for younger generations like Gen Z to break into the housing market.
Recent reports from Redfin show just over 27% of Gen Z adults currently own a home, compared to nearly 55% of millennials and more than 72% of Gen X adults.
“It’s important because it’s giving people in the community an opportunity to have an opportunity for home ownership, the affordable way. NACA provides education throughout the United States at our home buying workshops. These workshops are important. They’re the first step. People need to know exactly what the program is about, what to anticipate, and how to navigate through the process the right way.”
Organizers with NACA say workshops are designed to give people hope and practical guidance during a difficult housing market. They say understanding credit, budgeting and the home buying process can help more families take the first step toward ownership.
