ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - An FBI spokesperson confirmed to WALB it raided a home on Burlington Road in Albany Wednesday evening as part of an investigation.

“I had a few friends who told me that they just heard a loud explosion,” said Ken Emerson, an Albany resident who lives in the neighborhood.

According to FBI’s Atlanta Public Affairs Officer, Tony Thomas, “FBI agents were at the location conducting court-authorized activities.”

After further questioning, the FBI told us, “We conducted a court-authorized search warrant. There is no known threat to the public at this time.” but that’s not stopping some neighbors from raising concerns.

“I was told that we moved to one of the safest neighborhoods in Albany and kind of puts a damper on that feeling. We don’t really feel as safe as we did before so it’s a little bit concerning,” Emerson said.

Sources tell WALB flash bangs were used by agents to enter the home, although the FBI did not confirm that information. The devices created smoke visible from the exterior of the home, leading neighbors to suspect there was a fire. Sources tell us there was no fire.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler told WALB he was not called to that location.

The Albany Police Department’s Special Investigation Unit was involved only as support for the FBI, according to Albany Police Chief Michael Persley.

WALB still has a lot of unanswered questions. Was anyone arrested during the search? What was the search related to? Will there be any other FBI activity in the area? FBI officials said right now they can’t release any more information.
