Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Eight Westover athletes signed to continue their education and athletic careers at the college level.
Four of the athletes will attend Albany State University. More than half of the signees are headed to schools in the SIAC.
Randy McAfee - Clayton State University
Devon Mack - Central Georgia Technical College
Saylor Edwards - Benedict College
Mykell Hines - Savannah State University
Jaylen Tate - Albany State University
Jordan Lassiter - Albany State University
Tanner Turner - Albany State University
Prince Whitfield - Albany State University
The athletes said their bond will remain strong despite becoming rivals.
“When we play I know it’s going to be a great fight and it’s going to be all love at the end of the day,” Hines said.
The signees credited Coach Joyner for their success.

“We love Coach Joyner,” said Turner. He really gave us hope and some more structure and it means a lot playing for him,” Mcafee said.
In two seasons, Joyner has helped more than 20 athletes earn scholarships. One athlete said Joyner focused on academics and character development.
“I came from not doing my work, not doing too much with my life to him taking me in as his own. Building me up. Building my character as a young man. Changing my grades, changing how I am and building my character overall and hopefully being a better man in the future,” Mack said.
Principal Mr. William Chunn congratulated the athletes at the signing ceremony.
“To these athletes I say to you all congratulations. Job well done!”
