ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The polls are open and Georgians can now cast their votes in the Public Service Commission Special Primary Runoff.

Early voting begins on Monday, July 7, and will close on Friday, July 11. Election Day is set for Tuesday, July 15, and voters will be able to go to their assigned election day polling location between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The runoff will decide which Democratic candidate will face off against the Republican incumbent, Fitz Johnson, for the District 3 seat in the November election.

The Public Service Commission oversees utilities across the state, and the commission most recently voted to approve a three-year rate freeze for Georgia Power.

During this runoff, voters will see candidates Keisha Waites and Peter Hubbard on their ballots.

Hubbard received about 32% of the vote in the primary, while Waites received about 47%.

If you are planning to head to the polls, make sure your voter registration is active on the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page, and don’t forget to bring your valid photo ID.
