ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Youth and mobility impaired hunters in Georgia can harvest a turkey early this year. March 21-22, these hunters can harvest one male turkey per day per hunter. Turkey season limits each hunter to two turkeys per hunting season, per the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR).
This early hunt is open to anyone under the age of 16, or a hunter who is mobility impaired.
The GDNR defines mobility impaired as any hunter “confined to a wheelchair, hemiplegia, monoplegia, paraplegia or single-leg amputation above the knee.”
Participating hunters must hunt on privately owned land, have a harvest record, have a hunting license and big game license. Before a turkey can be moved, the hunter must fill out the harvest record—including the date and county—and complete the Georgia game check reporting process.
Youth hunters under the age of 16 do not need a license. A youth hunter must be accompanied by an adult (18 years old or older) holding a hunting license and big game license during the hunt. For more rules on Georgia turkey hunting, click here. To buy a license click here.
Georgia’s regular turkey hunting season starts on March 28 for private land owners and on April 4 for public lands.
