ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — From Atlanta to Chamblee, drivers rushed to fill their tanks before the end of the state’s gas tax suspension on Wednesday.

“When I finished work, I got in my car and drove right to the gas station,” said Conner Lord.

“I didn’t take it too seriously until my boyfriend told me, I was like OK let me go do it,” said Giselle Brissette.

Brissette said she drives about 35 miles a day for work, and the high gas prices, with an expected rise after the tax suspension, have her already thinking about her next car choice.

“Oh man, It’s scary it makes me want to get an EV, honestly, because I’m about to trade my car. So I’m either doing Toyota or a straight Tesla or something,” Brissette explained.

The gas tax will resume Wednesday after being suspended for two months due to the conflict in Iran. The suspension cut 33 cents a gallon for regular fuel and 37 cents for diesel.

In a statement, Kemp said the suspension helped drivers through the summer holidays but prices had begun to steady out.

However, drivers said the past couple months they have had to spend more on gas than usual.

“It’s been terrible. I’ve noticed it’s gone up about $15 to $18 from where I was at,” Brissette said.

“It’s been a lot, pretty expensive. Even with my Honda Civic it’s like a $40 to $50 full tank,” Lord said, as he is used to paying $30 to $35 for a full tank.

According to AAA, Georgia is still below the national fuel price average.

Even still, drivers like Lord who work close to home are driving farther for cheaper gas.

“It’s been a little tough. I’m trying to find, generally, if I can, get gas on the outskirts of the city to see if there are any lower prices,” Lord explained.

Drivers said they are planning to cut back on daily expenses and trips made.

“I feel like I’ll have to just stop going out as much, really just chill at the house,” Brissette said.

As previously seen here in Georgia, a rise in diesel fuel prices affected products transported on trucks that fill up with diesel.
