Description
Albany faces scorching temperatures before a soaking rain arrives early-week
ALBANY, GA — Friday wrapped up a dangerously hot week with highs mid 90s and heat indices around 103+. Isolated showers and strong-severe storms moved into a few areas with gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning.
Friday evening severe storms caused downed trees in multiple areas across SGA, such as Lowndes County, Grady County, Decatur County and Clay County. Highest wind gusts 43mph recorded in Dougherty Count.
What to Expect Saturday
Saturday will be brutally hot and mostly sunny. Highs reach the mid-90s, while heat indices climb to near 103-104 — making it feel even hotter.
If you’re heading outside, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces, drink plenty of water, and wear light clothing. Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including dizziness, nausea, and excessive fatigue.
The Pattern Shift Begins Sunday
Sunday marks the beginning of a significant change. A 50% chance of showers and storms develops after 2 p.m., with rain chances increasing as the day progresses into the evening. Highs slightly lower in the low 90s, but heat index values will still reach around 103 degrees.
Wet Pattern Dominates Monday and Tuesday
The real story unfolds Monday and Tuesday when a front stalls over the region, bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms. Rain chances jump to 80% on Monday and 60% on Tuesday.
Monday showers begin developing before 11 a.m., with thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. Tuesday continues the wet pattern with showers and thunderstorms likely after 8 a.m. Highs drop into the low-mid 80s as clouds and rain keep temperatures down.
SGA is under a marginal risk for excessive rainfall Sunday through Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with isolated higher amounts possible. While widespread riverine flooding is not expected, isolated flash flooding is possible across poor drainage areas.
Looking Ahead
By Wednesday, the pattern begins to dry out as the upper low moves away and the frontal system dissipates. Rain chances drop back to 30%, and highs return to the low 90s.
