What to Expect
A dangerous heat wave moves into SGA with relentless heat and humidity this weekend. Highs top low-mid 90s while heat index values reach 100 to 105 or hotter. Those triple digit “feels like” will be much more dangerous. Keep in mind this is the kind of heat that can be life-threatening, not just uncomfortable but a health concern. The First Alert Weather team is tracking this significant weather event as it could impact your daily activities, outdoor plans, and most importantly, your health.
Saturday Through Monday
The summer weather pattern continues with tons of sun and intense heat. Sunday’s high will reach 94 with heat index values as high as 103. Monday brings a 50 percent chance of afternoon and evening storms after 2 p.m., but the heat will still dominate the forecast as highs hold low-mid 90s.
What You Need to Do
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Limit outdoor activity: If you must be outside, do it early in the morning or after sunset when it’s cooler.
Never leave children or pets in vehicles: Temperatures inside a parked car can become deadly in minutes.
Check on vulnerable people: Elderly neighbors, those without air conditioning, and people with health conditions are at higher risk during extreme heat.
Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing: This helps your body stay cooler.
Watch for heat exhaustion symptoms: Dizziness, nausea, weakness, or excessive sweating are warning signs to get to a cool place immediately.
Looking Ahead
Tuesday and Wednesday will see a slight break with highs in the low 90s and a 30-40 percent chance of afternoon storms. These storms could bring some relief from the heat, but don’t count on any significant cooling.
