CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office (CRSO) is mourning the loss of Corporal Lori Benjamin.
Benjamin died Sunday, March 1, at her mother’s home after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
According to the CRSO Facebook page, Benjamin joined the Sheriff’s Office in July 2021 and was promoted to Corporal just a year later. She was recognized for her dedication, leadership, and service to the community.
Earlier this year, she was nominated for the Michael Sangster Warrior Award. Sheriff Billy Hancock said Benjamin always put her colleagues first, maintaining contact and inspiring others even as her illness progressed.
“She was more than a deputy; she was family,” Hancock said. “Her courage, selflessness, and devotion to duty will live on in our hearts.”
The Sheriff’s Office asks for prayers for Benjamin’s family, friends, and fellow officers during this difficult time.
