Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The wood chip fire in East Albany from earlier this month reignited on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Dougherty County dispatch told WALB that the fire was called in at around 3:46 p.m. Three fire crews responded to the scene.
Officials tell WALB that some forestry is on fire, but it’s kept under control.
The Albany Fire Department provided to WALB the following statement on the fire:
" We are aware of the fire at 1075 Evelyn Avenue.
The Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) was out there today and has cut a fire break in the area on the south and west perimeters and setup a back burn. Now the fire is a controlled burn.
Signs will be placed on US 19 notifying the public of potential smoke in the area.
We will be meeting with GFC tomorrow and we will be releasing additional information after the meeting.
You may see flames and smoke in the area, however it is a controlled burn.”
Viewers report the Liberty Expressway area being hazy due to the flames.
On Sept. 3, WALB reported that the fire involved two acres of slash pine wood chips. Georgia Forestry responded quickly and successfully contained the fire.
