LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) — Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 3, for Caiden Gibson, the 20-year-old city of Albany lineman who was killed in a workplace accident, according to the Funeral Home.
Albany city officials announced Gibson’s death Thursday, May 28. He was an apprentice lineman in the city’s Utility Operations Department, hired in September 2024. The city said the investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Gibson’s family blew a final duck call during the service. The family said it was a special moment as he is remembered for his love of hunting. He also enjoyed ATV riding and spending time with family.
South Georgia officials, fellow city of Albany linemen and local law enforcement officials packed the funeral service alongside Gibson’s loved ones.
“Caiden, in his death, has probably impacted more people here, surrounding counties and beyond than probably most of us will ever do in our entire life,” Reverend Dan Harris, the eulogist, said.
After the service, fellow linemen lined up along Georgia Highway 32 in support while the family drove to the burial site at a Leesburg cemetery.
“It doesn’t take away the pain that you’re experiencing, and will experience for a long time,” Harris said. “You just get bigger than the grief.”
Harris said in the eulogy that while the family does not have all the answers as to why Gibson’s death happened, they know he was loved and will be remembered as a fiancé, father and dedicated city lineman.
The family asks for the community’s grace, strength and comfort during their time of grief.
Gibson’s family has a GoFundMe to assist with funeral expenses that is close to its $30,000 fundraising goal.
