WASHINGTON (TNND) — A Columbia University student, 21-year-old Yunseo Chung, is reportedly facing deportation after participating in pro-Palestinian protests on campus.

Chung, a legal U.S. resident who moved from South Korea with her family at age 7, filed a lawsuit Monday accusing the Trump administration of targeting her for deportation due to her political views and constitutionally protected protesting.

Her attorneys said immigration officials informed them earlier this month that Chung's lawful permanent resident status is being revoked.

Meanwhile, the families of Israeli hostages being held in Gaza have filed a lawsuit against another Columbia University student activist, Mahmoud Khalil, and several student groups. The suit reportedly describes Khalil as "Hamas’ propaganda arm in New York City." Khalil, also a legal U.S. resident, is currently detained at an immigration facility in Louisiana.

"The detention and threatened deportation of Mahmoud is illegal and is a direct assault on our constitutional rights to due process, freedom of speech, and the right to protest," said Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., on Tuesday.

Columbia University leadership is working to reinstate $400 million in federal funding revoked by the White House over its handling of pro-Palestinian protests. The university has agreed to a list of demands from the Trump administration, prompting faculty protests against the decision.

Earlier this month, former President Trump stated on Truth Social his intention to stop federal funding for schools allowing what he calls "illegal protests," promising that violators will be arrested and expelled, and non-citizens deported. He added, "No masks!" to his message. Columbia agreed to the "no masks on campus" demand from Washington.

Seemingly undeterred, dozens of Columbia students demonstrated on campus Monday, wearing masks. It appears none of the students faced consequences for their actions.
